14 Jan 01st Jan 2019 – Annual Polar Bear Swim and the year ahead
I thought I’d start 2019 off as I mean to carry on! At 12pm today, joined by many other nutters, we braved the 6C water temperature to jump into the sea at Viking Bay Broadstairs in aid of the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation. A super turn out with lots of support for such a great cause!
The year ahead is going to be rather eventful to say the least! In between the full time operation running property crowdfunding platform, Crowd with Us, with my business partners, I’m involved in several other interesting events!
Set in motion
In March I’m putting on a charity boxing event in London that I’ll be partaking in for my sins, in order to raise money and awareness for NOMAN, the fight to end HPV and prevent 5% of cancers. In May I’ve organised a trip to Bulgaria where in celebration of one of my best friends turning 50 years old we’ll be attempting to cross a section of the Rhodope Mountains, on the back of Husqvarna Enduro motorbikes.
July hosts the biggest challenge of the year however where I’ll be joining the NOMAN is an Island: Race to End HPV team rowing part way across the Mediterranean in a race from Barcelona to Ibiza!
So I’ve never boxed before and whilst I’ve hired mopeds on holiday, I can’t ride a motorbike on the road, let alone off-road through the mountains! In between all of this and the normal family commitments I’ve got to learn to row, competitively, as part of a 4 man team, rowing 2hrs on, 2hrs off, 24hrs a day non-stop for 4-5 days! It’s going to be one heck of a year and that’s only the first half!
So much support
I’ve already received so much help and support from those around me! The last 3 months have mainly been planning, however I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of the worlds most impressive assistant and good friend Jean Summerhayes who organises my life for me! Lord Frank Woodford Mbe has been a massive help to both Jean and myself in putting this all together and with the continued fundraising. Angela Foster is a superb performance coach who is doing an amazing job in supporting me by providing strength and conditioning coaching and nutrition plans all tailored to my DNA to ensure I’ll be at my best when the events come round. Last, but by no means least, my good friend Takaloo Takaloo, is going to be getting me fight fit, both mentally and physically and will be in my corner on the night.
Watch this space for updates on my training, fundraising efforts and event details.
